Today we celebrate the remarkable life of Sheryl Gay Jones, a beacon of light whose brilliance touched the lives of all who knew her. Born on August 17, 1938, in the quaint town of Parsons, Kansas, Sheryl's journey was one of passion, purpose, and profound impact. On October 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family, Sheryl passed away peacefully in Arvada, Colorado, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and learning.
Sheryl's life was a testament to the power of education. She embarked on a fulfilling career as a high school and middle school English teacher, where she ignited the spark of curiosity in countless students. Sheryl was also a prolific author of children's books, weaving tales of Sea Turtles and Native Americans that captured young imaginations.
Her partnership with Donald Jones was not just a marriage but a beautiful alliance of two souls. Together, they raised a family built on the foundations of faith, humor, and wisdom. She is survived by her sons and Daughter in-law, Scott (Cindy) and Steve, and Scott and Cindy's children, Sheryl's cherished grandsons, Erik, Michael, Matthew, and Jacob.
Sheryl's commitment to the environment was evident in her support for Sea Turtle Inc., a sanctuary for wild sea turtles. She understood the delicate balance of nature and the importance of preserving it for future generations. Through her efforts, she ensured that the sanctuary remained a haven for these gentle creatures, teaching her family and community the importance of conservation and respect for all living beings.
Today, as we reflect on the life of Sheryl Gay Jones, let us honor her memory by embodying the virtues she lived by. Let us approach each day with a sense of humor, engage the world with intelligence, and spread love with open arms. Sheryl's story does not end here; it continues in every life she has touched, in every lesson she has taught, and in every heart she has warmed.
