Randy Jones Obituary

Randy Preston Jones, fondly known as Preston to his friends and family, passed away on September 27, 2025, at the age of 53, in Aurora, Colorado. Born on May 9, 1972, in Malad, Idaho, he was a cherished son, a devoted husband, a loving father, an adored grandfather, and a loyal friend. His life was a testament to the power of positivity, even in the face of his battle with Systemic Sclerosis, which he faced with remarkable courage and dignity.

A devoted family man, Preston was a loving husband to his wife, Karla, and a proud father to his children, Forrest (Katie), Zach (Erica), Shawn (Alexandra), Landen, and Kayla (Levi). His role as a father extended to his precious grandchildren, Skylar, Kiley, Emerie, Lindsey, Andrein, and Zayden with the joyful anticipation of one more grandson soon to join the family circle. His deep love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and the legacy of his kindness and warmth will live on in them.

In addition to his immediate family, Preston's life was enriched by the presence of his father Randy A. Jones, mother Terra Schlehuber Smith, stepfather Rick Smith, a very special bond shared with his sister Jeness (Casey) Saxton, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, stepsiblings, and cousins that played a significant role by providing him with love, support, and beloved memories.

Preston was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Vernon and Zelma Jones, his maternal grandparents Elden and Renee' Schlehuber, his father Randy A. Jones, and his Uncle Kent Schlehuber. They have now welcomed him into eternal peace.

Preston was a graduate of Woods Cross High School in Utah. His career started out at La-Z-Boy in Tremonton, Utah in which he was an employee for many years and developed some lifelong friendships with his coworkers. He went on to excel in the transportation industry, where he was not only recognized for his many certifications but also revered as an exceptional truck driver. His colleagues respected him for his intelligence and dedication, and he was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed.

Preston's zest for life was evident in his array of interests. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding solace and excitement in downhill and backcountry skiing, golfing, camping, and fishing. His sense of exploring took him on many adventures, and he cherished the moments spent floating down the Colorado River on pontoon boats, sky jumping in Moab, Utah, and UTV off-roading on scenic trails. Riding dirt bikes was not just a hobby for Preston; it was a passion that allowed him to capture the thrill and adventure associated with the sport, emphasizing themes of freedom, adrenaline, and rugged terrain. Preston’s love of music was the soundtrack of his life, and he enjoyed listening to tunes that touched his soul and lifted his spirits.

Those who knew Preston would describe him as a loving individual with an intelligent mind and an adventurous spirit. His ability to embrace life's journey with love and enthusiasm was contagious, and he inspired many to seek out the beauty in the world around them. His laughter and kind-hearted nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we bid farewell to Randy Preston Jones, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest. We honor his legacy of love, adventure, and unwavering strength, which will continue to guide and inspire his family and friends for generations to come. Preston's life story is one of joy, resilience, and the enduring power of the human spirit.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held on October 25, 2025, at Rick Smith’s Residence in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho to share some of our beloved memories, unforgettable stories, to laugh, to cry and to remember a very special man who is greatly missed.
