Michael Anthony Garduño, known lovingly by many as Mikey, was born on October 10, 1974, in Denver, Colorado, and passed away on July 9, 2026, in the same city he called home. He lived his life with a spirit that was both grounded and uplifting, and his sudden accidental passing leaves behind a deep ache in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Mikey was a man whose presence could lighten a room.
Mikey was the kind of person who showed love through action. His hands and heart came together in a way that reflected who was. He was always happily ready to help friends and family with building, painting, landscaping, detailing cars, and organizing, and he brought the same energy to every task. He made people feel supported while he was doing them. That was one of his greatest gifts.
Those who knew Mikey remember him as funny, generous, and handy, but those words only begin to describe him. He had a way of making people laugh even when life was heavy. He made sure to always tell his family and close friends he loved them when leaving or hanging up a phone call.
Mikey’s spirituality was an important part of who he was. He lived with a sense that life held meaning beyond what could be seen, and he carried himself with a quiet faith that helped guide him through both joy and hardship. His life reflected a belief that people should lift each other up, show up for one another, and keep moving forward with courage. He was not perfect, because none of us are, but he was real, and he was sincere. He met life with honesty, humor, and heart.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Cora Armijo, Miramon and Margaret Garduño, and by his father, Michael Garduño. Their memory now joins his in the hearts of those who remain. He is survived by his mother, Christine Garduño; his sisters, Celina Garduño and Mikaela Padilla; his children, Unique, Michael, and Nadica Mendoza-Garduño; and his grandchildren, Icy, Love, and Ryla Mendoza. He also leaves behind countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will carry his memory forward with love and pride.
Mikey’s life is a reminder that a meaningful life is not measured only by years, but by impact. He made an impact everywhere he went. He showed that being generous is powerful. He showed that being funny can heal. He showed that being handy can be an act of love. He showed that ordinary moments, when filled with love, become extraordinary memories. His family and friends will remember his laugh, his willingness to help and loving spirit.
As we remember Mikey, we do not focus only on the loss. We also honor the example he set. He lived with heart. He lived in a way that encouraged others to keep going, keep building, and keep believing in the good that people can bring into one another’s lives. His journey may have ended, but the lessons he left behind remain. His life says to all of us that love is shown in action, that kindness matters, and that even in grief, there is reason to be grateful for the gift of having known someone so full of life.
As Helen Keller once said, “What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” Mikey will remain a part of the people who loved him, in every story told, every lesson remembered, and every act of kindness inspired by his example.
