Maria Del Carmen Martinez, known lovingly as Carmen “Ama,” passed away on October 19, 2026, in Lakewood, Colorado, from natural causes, at the age of 89.
Born on November 9, 1936, in Juarez, Mexico, Carmen lived a life marked by faith, hard work, and devotion to the people she loved. She carried with her the values of her upbringing throughout her life, and those who knew her will remember a woman whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and steadiness to any room. Her Christian faith guided her steps and shaped the way she cared for others, always striving to live with grace, humility, and kindness.
Carmen pursued her education with determination and earned a business degree, which became the foundation for a long and varied career. She worked as a secretary, accountant, sales representative, entrepreneur, and in the service industry, building a reputation for being capable, dependable, and wise. In every role, she was well respected because she brought integrity, efficiency, and a meticulous work ethic. She understood the value of responsibility and took pride in doing things well. Her professional life reflected her strength of character and her willingness to meet each challenge with confidence.
Beyond her work, her hands were often busy creating something beautiful, and her heart was always open to the simple pleasures that brought peace and happiness. She found joy in music and the familiar comfort of classic films, appreciated the beauty of a well-tended garden, and lovingly knitted beautiful blankets for every grandchild.
Carmen will be remembered by her family as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mom, grandmother, and most of all, great-grandmother. She led by example and infused the fundamental core values of putting family first and believing everything always works out according to God’s plan. Carmen was truly the embodiment of a fierce, courageous, loving, independent, and strong woman who carried the burden of being both a mother and father to her children. The strength, sacrifices, and unconditional love that defined Carmen’s life will continue through her seven children, Jose, Carlos, Patricia, Lourdes, Carmen, Laura, and Rosita, as well as her 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her memory with love and gratitude.
Those who knew Carmen will remember her for the life she built, the faith she lived, and the love she shared so freely. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, resilience, and quiet strength. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends, in every lesson and piece of wisdom she shared, as well as the kindness and faith that she gave so generously throughout her life
