Larry Gene Stelmack, a cherished brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 29, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the age of 73. Born on October 14, 1951, in Boulder, Colorado, he was a son of the late Jesse and George Stelmack and a beloved member of a large and loving family.
Larry grew up in a bustling household alongside his siblings, and after graduating from Longmont High School, he devoted many years of service as a janitorial custodian at Monarch High School. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his family and his faith. Those who knew Larry appreciated his gentle spirit, his kindness, and his unwavering work ethic.
A life-long resident of Colorado, Larry had an enduring love for the mountains that cradle his hometown. He found solace and joy in the grandeur of the Rockies and often spent time enjoying the simple pleasures of nature. His interests were as genuine as his smile—whether it was cheering on the Denver Broncos, tending to his garden, or savoring a glass of wine or a Budweiser beer, Larry embraced life's moments with warmth and enthusiasm.
Larry's love for family shone brightly, especially in moments spent with his niece and nephew, Selena and Jacob, whom he fondly referred to as his "apple pickers." Together, they shared the tradition of picking apples, a memory that will be treasured by his family for years to come. His passion for old cars and bicycles reflected his mechanical inclination and his joy in working with his hands.
Known for his love of a good cheeseburger paired with a vanilla shake, Larry also had a sweet tooth, with cookies and milk being a favorite treat. Mornings were a special time for him, often starting with a steaming cup of coffee accompanied by pancakes and sausage—a testament to his belief that every day should begin with something delightful.
Larry's presence in our lives was a gift, and he will be deeply missed by his surviving brothers, Ralph, Kevin, and Steve Stelmack, as well as by his numerous nieces and nephews, who will continue to honor his legacy through their own lives. His niece, Amber Shedd(Ben shedd), provided him with care and love for which the family is profoundly grateful. Or as Larry would say "I'm super spoiled "
Preceded in death by his parents and siblings, George Jr., Joseph, Kenneth, Jim, Michael, and Natalie "Susie" Stelmack, Larry leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the importance of family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Larry's life was a testament to the values he held dear—faith, family, and the dignity of hard work. As we bid farewell to a man of great character and kindness, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
A service to honor Larry's life will be held by his family. It will be a time of reflection, gratitude, and celebration of a life well-lived. Larry Gene Stelmack will be remembered as a man who loved deeply, worked diligently, and brought joy to those around him. Rest in peace, dear Larry, until we meet again.
