It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Joseph Alan "Joe" Hengstler, who died on September 23, 2025, in Arvada, Colorado, at the age of 42. Joe faced a year-and-a-half-long battle with stage four esophageal cancer with immense courage and determination.
Joe was born on December 23, 1982, in Highland Park, Illinois and then raised in Valparaiso, Indiana. He graduated from Valparaiso High School in 2001. Joe continued to pursue his education with passion and purpose, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Roosevelt University. His academic journey continued at Colorado University, where he completed a Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies.
Joe brought his vibrant energy and visionary leadership to Olde Town Arvada as Executive Director of the Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District. Affectionately known as “The Mayor of Olde Town,” he played an instrumental role in shaping the districts cultural and economic vitality. His dedication left an indelible mark on the community he served so wholeheartedly.
Joe shared a deep and enduring bond with his wife Megan Reder, who he began dating eighteen years ago. They celebrated fourteen years of marriage filled with love and laughter on August 6th. Together they raised their daughter Juniper Hengstler—Joe’s greatest joy. Whether playing at local parks or exploring nature trails together, Joe cherished every moment spent with June. Their home was filled with warmth and laughter that reflected his boundless love for his family.
A lover of the outdoors, Joe found peace and exhilaration in nature. He loved hiking through Colorado’s scenic landscapes, biking along winding trails, camping under starlit skies, barbecuing with friends and family, and soaking in hot springs. Music was another lifelong passion—he was drawn to rhythm from an early age and found joy both behind the drums and among fellow music lovers at concerts.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Megan; their cherished daughter Juniper; his mother Camilla Hengstler; sister Erika Huber; brother Bob Hengstler; and numerous nieces and
nephews who were proud to call him Uncle Joe. He was preceded in death by his father Barry Hengstler and brother-in-law Marc Huber.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held, date and location is to be determined.
May Joseph Alan Hengstler’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who were touched by his life.
