John Thomas Martinez

John Thomas Martinez, known to family and friends as John, passed away on July 29, 2026, in Wheatridge, Colorado, at the age of 90.

John was born on June 16, 1936, in Denver, Colorado, and he carried the spirit of his hometown with him throughout his life. He lived with a steady faith, a kind heart, and a quiet strength that touched everyone who knew him. Those who loved him will remember him as a loving, faith-filled, and friendly man whose life reflected the values he held dear.

John was a proud veteran of the Marines, and his service was one of the many ways he demonstrated his commitment to duty, honor, and country. He worked for many years for the City and County of Denver, where he contributed his time and effort with the same dedication that marked every part of his life. He received a Mayors Award of Honor.  Whether in his work, his service, or his daily interactions, John carried himself with integrity and respect for others.

Faith was central to John’s life. He was a Christian who believed deeply in God’s grace, the power of prayer, and the comfort found in Scripture. He found strength in his church and joy in worship, and his faith guided him through life’s joys and hardships alike. His example reminded others that a life rooted in Christ is one marked by peace, humility, and hope. As it is written in Psalm 23, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” John lived with that assurance in his heart, trusting in the Lord’s care through every season of his life.

John was devoted to his family, and his greatest earthly blessing was the love he shared with his wife, Stella Martinez. He is lovingly remembered by his five children, Diane, Donna, Loretta, Johnny, and Janell, each of whom brought him pride and joy. John treasured his role as husband, father, and family man, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished for generations. His family will remember his steady presence, his warm smile, and the way he made those around him feel valued and loved.

In addition to his devotion to family and faith, John enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. He loved Denver Broncos football and followed the Colorado Rockies with interest and enthusiasm. He also enjoyed listening to music, which brought him comfort and happiness, and he found peace and fellowship in church. These interests were part of the rich and full life he lived, and they are among the many memories his loved ones will hold close.

John’s life was one of service, devotion, and love. He was a man who believed in doing what was right, caring for others, and trusting God in all things.  He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and church community.

The family takes comfort in the promise of eternal life and in the hope of reunion through Jesus Christ. John’s earthly journey has ended, but his soul rests in the peace of the Lord. As the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Those words reflect the life John lived, a life of faith, service, and love. May he rest in the eternal embrace of God, and may those who mourn him be strengthened by the hope of resurrection and the assurance of God’s unfailing love.
