Gilberto Abalos Obituary

Gilberto Antonio Abalos, affectionately known as "Gordo" to his friends and family, passed away on March 22, 2025, at the age of 43, due to complications from diabetes. A lifelong resident of Colorado, Gordo was born on May 8, 1981, in Thornton and spent his final days surrounded by love in Commerce City.

Gordo's warmth and exuberant spirit were evident from his earliest days. He graduated from Adams City High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and discovered his passion for community service. His commitment to his hometown was unwavering, as demonstrated through his dedicated work at the Commerce City Parks and Recreation Department. There, Gordo's infectious enthusiasm and tireless work ethic brightened the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Outside of work, Gordo's zest for life found many outlets. He was an avid fisherman and a master of the grill; his love for good food was matched only by his skill in preparing it. A true foodie at heart, Gordo's culinary adventures were a source of joy for himself and a delight for those fortunate enough to share a meal with him. His interests were wide-ranging, from the tranquility of bike rides to the excitement of spending time at the shooting range. Gordo's artistic side shone through in his paracord arts and crafts, as well as in his drawings and coloring, which revealed a man of both strength and sensitivity.

Family was the cornerstone of Gordo's life. He was a devoted son to his mother, Ruby Valdez, a loving father to his son, Gilbert Aurelio, and his daughter, Serenidy Constance, and a cherished husband to his wife, Desiree Daigle. Gordo's siblings—Johnny Mitotes, Richard Valdez, Jesus Valdez, Mona Valdez, and Gracie Valdez—will forever remember their brother's hearty laughter and generous heart. He was also a fun-loving uncle to Jesus Kruz Valdez and various beloved nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Gordo's home was often filled with music, a testament to his love for rhythm and melody that could both soothe and energize the soul. His trips to the ranch with the roosters were times of peace and reflection, and those moments shared with family were among his most treasured. Whether it was at a family gathering or a simple one-on-one conversation, Gordo's presence was a source of comfort and happiness to all.

As we say goodbye to Gordo, we celebrate a life lived with passion, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to others. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the countless memories he created with those who were privileged to know him. Gilberto Antonio Abalos will be deeply missed, but the impact of his life will continue to be felt by all who were touched by his generous spirit.

Gordo's journey through life was a testament to the power of joy, the strength of family bonds, and the beauty of friendship. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded to cherish each moment, to embrace our passions, and to always make time for those we love. Gordo's spirit will live on in the stories we share, the meals we enjoy together, and the laughter that echoes in the hearts of all who loved him.

While we mourn the loss of a remarkable man, we also take comfort in knowing that Gordo's legacy will endure. His lessons of love, his passion for life, and his unwavering positivity will continue to inspire and guide us. Gordo's life was a gift to us all, and he will be remembered with fondness and gratitude. Rest in peace, Gordo, until we meet again.
