Gabriel Thomas Charpentier, known affectionately as Gabe to his family and friends, lost his courageous 7 year long battle with cancer at the age of 49 on February 22, 2025, in Aurora, Colorado. Born on August 24, 1975, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Gabe's life was marked by his passionate pursuit of culinary excellence, his love for adventure, and his unwavering dedication to his family.
Gabe's culinary journey began with his graduation from Le Cordon Bleu Culinary program at Brown College, a testament to his dedication and skill in the kitchen. His talent and hard work took him to France, where he completed an externship that honed his abilities and shaped his future career. He returned to the United States with a vision and eventually became a respected executive chef. Gabe's entrepreneurial spirit shone through when he became part owner of a restaurant, a venture he was immensely proud of, and then again when he took part in a multitude of pop-up restaurant events, including the co-founding of Thistle Dining. His creativity and leadership in the kitchen left an indelible mark on the culinary world.
Family was the cornerstone of Gabe's life. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer, and their daughters, Madeline and Grace. His mother, Linda, and his sister, Pandora (Carl), along with many dear friends, will fondly remember Gabe's generous spirit and heartfelt laughter. His family was the source of his strength, and his love for them was evident in every aspect of his life.
Gabe's interests extended beyond the kitchen. He had a love for working on vintage cars, which provided him with hours of joy and a chance to work with his hands in a different way. Fishing trips were a favorite pastime, offering him peaceful solitude and the thrill of the catch. A visit to the gun range was an exercise in focus and precision, while playing video games allowed him to unwind and engage in friendly competition. Most importantly, Gabe cherished the time he spent with his friends and family, creating memories that they will hold close forever.
As we remember Gabe, we reflect on the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Gabe's life was a testament to this belief. His kindness, his infectious smile, and his ability to make those around him feel loved and valued will be deeply missed.
Gabe's legacy is not only in the dishes he created or the restaurant he helped to build but in the love he shared and the lives he touched. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him to live with passion, to cherish their loved ones, and to make the world a better place through acts of kindness and generosity.
As the sun sets on Gabe's final chapter, we take comfort in the warm memories and the indelible impact he made on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Gabe's spirit will forever be a beacon of light and love in the hearts of his family and friends.
