On Sunday March 9, 2025, before the sun rose Erminia “Emma” Valencia Haynes, beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully at the sweet age of 93 years old in Westminster, CO. Emma was born in Llano Largo, New Mexico on March 28, 1931, where she began her life with her adoptive parents, Candido and Sabinita Esquibel. She spent her younger years working on the family ranch, where she tended to her horses; Dick and Princess, that she adored and shared stories about for many years. In addition to her horses, she had a cat named Hita, which only began her immense love for cats. As she grew older, she met her first sweetheart Sevedeo Romero, together they were blessed with 9 beautiful children: Rose, Sorovel, Sebedeo, Mike, Vivian, Claudine, Mary, Erlinda, and Nancy. In the 1970s Emma found a new love interest in Orval Haynes, not long after meeting they were married and headed to CA to enjoy the beautiful coast with some of the kids. After some fun in the sun they decided it was best to plant their roots in CO and moved back, where she remained for the rest of her days.
Emma stayed busy cleaning rooms in hotels. She took pride in her work of cleaning for many years until she retired to focus on caring for her growing family.
Throughout her life Emma loved to socialize, dance to Spanish music, and play her favorite game Bingo. When she wasn’t at the Bingo Hall, you could find her at the penny slots in Las Vegas, NV or Black Hawk, CO. Throughout her life she took the time to dress to impress, always remembering to include her signature red lipstick. Which isn’t a surprise to those who knew her as red was her favorite color. She also enjoyed long scenic car rides around colorful Colorado. As all her children grew older and started having their own families, Emma enjoyed the quality time with each of her grandchildren, totaling 19. As the years passed, she had to learn to divide that time even more when she was blessed with many great and great-great grandchildren. Emma was a devoted Catholic woman and had a heart full of love for Jesus Christ. She wouldn’t be caught without her rosery, a cross, or scripture.
Erminia is survived by her brother Joe Valencia (Lilian). Along with her loving children; Rose Mills (Dave), Sorovel Romero (Cheryl), Sebedeo Romero, Mike Romero (Cathy), Claudine Martinez, Mary Romero, Erlinda Bondurant (Russell) and Nancy Jones. She leaves behind a loving legacy through her many grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving daughter Vivian Patrick, brothers; Ray Valencia, Pat Valencia, and Marty Valencia, her sisters; Mary Sailas and Melisia Sailas.
