Duncan Alexander Hopwood, 81, passed away peacefully on June 30 in Highlands Ranch, Colorado having battled heart disease and dementia for several years.
Duncan was raised in Ft. Collins where he graduated from Colorado State University with both B.S. and M.Ed. degrees. He was a member of ALPHA TAU fraternity which brought him years of brotherhood and valued friendships. He obtained an additional Masters degree at the University of Wyoming and achieved the DPS Teacher of the Year award during his career. Primarily a science teacher at Grant Junior and Thomas Jefferson High schools, Duncan taught, coached and mentored students in Denver Public Schools for 35 years and was beloved by students, faculty and parents alike. As an avid golfer he played as often as possible and was passionate about the Denver Broncos.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Liz, his sister, Christina (Ed) Fraley, an uncle, Joe (Barbara) Hopwood in Minnesota and two sons both in Colorado, Kevin (Amy) Delohery and Travis (Jennifer) Hopwood and numerous grandchildren. His gentle spirit, patience and laughter will be missed my all.
