Donald A. Loomis of Arvada, Colorado passed away on March 29th, 2022, at the age 92. Don was born on his family farm in rural Hayes County, Nebraska, on August 5th, 1929, to Ewing Reed Loomis & Lela Mae (Rogers) Loomis. He was raised on their family farm and attended Hayes Center High School until graduating in 1946.
On September 21st, 1950, Don entered the United States Air Force as a member of 68th Fighter Squad. He spent most of his time serving between Japan & Korea. Don was honorably discharged on April 22nd, 1954. 40 years later close members of 68th Squadron reunited and had annual gatherings.
Don was united in marriage to LaVerda Greeley on July 10th, 1955, at the United Congregational Church in Hayes Center, Nebraska. Following their marriage, Don and LaVerda moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where Don enrolled at the Southwest Technical College and graduated in 1959. They then moved to Aurora, Colorado where Don started his professional career in Engineering. Don & LaVerda were blessed with their first son Randy Loomis in 1961. Following Randy’s birth they relocated to Arvada, Colorado where they have resided for 60 years. After relocating, they were blessed with their second son Dave in 1964.
Don was very much a family man and enjoyed the activities of camping and fishing throughout the state of Colorado. He was also involved in his son's school and sport activities. Don’s professional career included 26 years at Gates Rubber Company in Research & Development where retired in 1996. During his retirement, Don could be found on his boat fishing at Stanley Lake or attending his grandson’s sporting events. He loved spending time and making memories with his family.
Don was a wonderful, kindhearted man that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Ewing & Lela, his 4 brothers, Edwin, Reed Jr, Ronald, Jack, and his son Randy. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, LaVerda, his son David (Kerstene) Loomis and former daughter-in-law Pamela Loomis along with grandson’s Jacob, Dustin, Dillon & Brody and great grandson Henry.
Memorial services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery with Military Honors on April 13th @ 1:15 pm. Staging Area "C"
