On July 13th, 2022, we lost our wonderful son, brother Alexander Reece Van Poppel. He was born on August 8th, 1995 and would have been 27 years old this August. Alex was known for his quick wit, giant heart, and passion for food. He was kind, talented, unique and beloved by so many and he will be greatly missed.
Alex lived in Evergreen, CO with his two lively, quirky cats Nimbus and Loki. He was always looking for new music to enjoy but gravitated to classic rock songs of his parents’ era. Alex was athletic and excelled in baseball as a youth and was an excellent skier who could outski us all by the time he was a preteen. He also learned the love of fly fishing from his father and enjoyed camping, boating and fishing with his friends and family.
Alex found his work passion in cooking. From the time he was little he was a foodie and had a wooden spoon and apron ready to cook with his mom. He attended the Art Institute’s Culinary program after high school where he developed an interest in food science. He became a chef and worked in many of the Denver area’s best restaurants and developed his skills as a kitchen manager in Evergreen. He cooked a mean Thanksgiving dinner each year and could cook a five-star dinner on a camp stove.
He leaves behind his father, Kevin Van Poppel of Evergreen, CO, his mother Marian Reece Van Poppel of Denver, CO, his sister Grace Van Poppel of Denver CO, his Uncle Mike and Aunt Georgia Reece of Lancaster, CA and his Grandma Christine Miller of Evergreen, CO.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Red Rocks Rock Room on his August 1st, 2022 from 11:00 to 3:00
